Sure, there was a report... And there was "evidence" that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction - or were getting there (I know, it's a bit out there).
The commission (5 D, 5 R) was issued and appointed by Bush and, a then predominantly Republican, Congress. Prior to its publication, the public version was screened and edited! Though critical, there were ties within the Commission to, e.g., Boeing and Lockheed Martin(!!!); investments in Saudi Arabia and Bin Laden; and Philip D. Zelikow was accused by the "9/11 Family Steering Committee" (instrumental in pressuring the government to establish a Commissino in the first place) of having too close ties to Bush and Rice. Also, Bush AND Cheney refused to testify under oath - and Rice "wasn't required" to. In sum, there was a report, but apparently the validity and credibility has not quite been communicated to certain segments of the American public. Ultimately, and this might seem bland and "easy" but nontheless, I do not believe it is for us (as Europeans and outsiders) to judge whether there is a need for another report - because voices of people who lost family and friends on 9/11 certainly suggest otherwise...

I would disagree with the need for a need neutral and conclusive investigation into 9/11. This already exists, it is called the 9-11 commission report and available for download .
